The WCEA will be holding an informational meeting at the Community Center on Thursday February 17th, from 11am-2pm. You will have to attend during your lunch break and lunch will be provided.

Annual Elections To Be Held @ November Board Meeting

The annual board member elections will be held at the November meeting. If you are a member and are interested in voting for or running for Association president or a board member position, you must show up to the November meeting.

Contract Passed By Membership

The contract which was voted on by members on October 11th, passed. What does this mean for you as a member? It means that we are in a contract until July 2011. We will need to go back to the bargaining table again in early 2011 in order to negotiate again for a successor contract.

Slogan and Logo

We are asking for members to provide ideas for developing a slogan or motto. We're looking for something short. One example is the City's slogan "People, Pride and Progress". If you have an idea, please leave a comment on this post or email the Association President at sgardner at whittiercea dot org. (Replace the "at" with @ and the "dot" with .)

We're also calling all members who may have any artistic ability. We'd like to develop some sort of logo that represents the Association as a whole. The logo would appear on all published material and should be representative of as much of the Association membership as possible. If you're interested, you can contact the Association President at the same email address as above.

Insurance Committee

The insurance committee met on March 11th and the news was not too bad. Our experience with PPO's was very good for the last 12 month period which will work in our favor. The HMO's may or may not have an increase depending on how negotiations with Anthem work out. Kaiser bases all of it's increases on a 'floor' and 'ceiling'. Kaiser rates are never below the floor nor above the ceiling. We will know actual dollar values on increases or rate passes, for all plans, towards the end of April. When those numbers come in, we will post the figures here.

The overall message that we received at the meeting was that the rates are not as bad as they were last year, and the PPO rates are actually somewhat good.

General Membership Meeting - February 16th, 2010

The WCEA is planning to hold a general membership meeting on Tuesday, February 16th. Members are encouraged to come during their lunch period to hear about this years upcoming negotiations. The meeting will be held at the Community Center (located at: Mar Vista and Washington) and will consist of 3 one half hour presentations and question/answer sessions. The presentations will start at 11:00am, 11:30am, and 12:00pm. You only need to be present for one of them, because they will each be the same.

WCEA Supports Local Taxpayer, Public Safety, and Transportation Protection Act of 2010

The quality of life for the citizens of Whittier depends on the revenue that the City is able to bring in. When the State of California takes and borrows billions of local taxpayer dollars, the ability for the City to provide services is diminished. The WCEA is passionate about the services that we provide for the citizens of our community and we believe that protecting the City's revenue is vital to maintaining the quality of life that our community has come to enjoy. It is this reason that our Association supports the "Local Taxpayer, Public Safety, and Transportation Protection Act of 2010".
